Looking back at 2017, I am extremely proud of the success that our team has been instrumental in delivering, particularly on the Northern Hub project and more recently the Transpennine Route Upgrade programme (TRU). D2 Rail’s team has helped to plan and deliver seven complicated stages on a vital piece of operational railway in the centre of Manchester and at times put their lives on hold when working on the 2 major blockades in 2017 and numerous weekend possessions.
It’s been an exciting year of growth and project closeout for the team. I am grateful to the Planning and Controls team for both their dedication and their work ethic to ensure that Northern Hub project reached its stage gates and completed its handover. The Ordsall Chord is a landmark project that D2 Rail has had the pleasure of being part of and I would like to personally thank my team that includes John Taylor, Alesha Hancock, David Harwood and Russell Foulds.
Flying high on the success of the Ordsall Chord project we assisted the TRU West of Leeds Alliance (BAM Nuttall, Amey, Arup) to win the tender process, which in turn elevated D2 Rail to sub participant status within the project. We are excited to take our experience forward into TRU and help to provide a ‘best in class’ controls solution for this exciting programme of works.
Not only has it been a year of celebrating project success for the Planning and Controls team, we have also had many personal successes in the team. This newsletter covers a number of these including Alesha Hancock’s nomination for Rail person of the Year at the Rail Staff awards, John Taylor’s interview with Synchro regarding the implementation of 4D planning on projects and our newest addition to the team Dave Harwood.
The team have had a fantastic year in 2017 and I look forward to seeing what 2018 will bring.
