On Friday 4th July, The D2 team took on an Indoor Cycling Challenge, with 21 fantastic participants riding an incredible 366km to raise money for our chosen charity for 2025 – AKT.
AKT support LGBTQ+ young people by providing routes into safe, affordable, long-term housing, as well as actions around employability, mental health, community building, youth engagement and healthcare. They are the only national charity dedicated to providing support for LGBTQ+ young people who are either at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing it. Shockingly, statistics reveal that 24% of homeless individuals aged 16-25 identify as LGBTQ+.
The distance the team cycled mirrored the Liverpool to Hull and Leeds to Newcastle lines of the proposed Northern Powerhouse Rail, “a new rail network for the North of England aimed at increasing the rail capacity for the 21st century”.
Showing D2 Global’s support for this major infrastructure project that “has the potential to be a social and economic catalyst for the region and the people and businesses of the North”.
It was tough, sweaty, and so worth it — beating our target, raising £370 to help AKT continue their vital work providing safe homes and brighter futures for LGBTQ+ youth.
A massive thank you to everyone who cycled, donated, or supported us along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you! See you all again next year?
